Announcement of the new expansion started a lot of discussion about the two brand new races, items, skills and naturally, new professions.

Burning Crusade expansion introduced Jewelcrafting and Enchanting, Wrath of the Lich King brought Inscription. Cataclysm expansion will, as announced, bring Archaeology and Reforging, latest features of crafting.

Archaeology basics

Archaeology is announced as a fourth secondary profession, unique in that it will allow a brand new customization of existing characters. Players who learn Archaeology will be able to research the ruins in all of the zones and search for the antiques just like real Archaeologists would do.

The research process will include making notes and collecting various artifacts. By using these artifacts, Archaeologists characters will be allowed to undergo further customizations, while handing the artifacts in to a Titan cult, will provide them with awesome rewards, such as new vanity pets, Teleportation, Titles and different items.

Ability of Archaeologists will be to come up with the new discoveries, which will allow for the even more of the new abilities and passive skills, depending on the chosen path.

In what way is this profession unique?

All the professions in WoW are conceited to follow the certain pattern – to be learned, skilled to the appropriate level and then used to produce some final product. Archaeology will change this concept. You will not be able to level it up to the maximum skill level and then stop advancing it. Archaeology is meant to be without maximum level, thus allowing continuous progress and keeping the interest of the players.

Reforging basics

Reforging profession will allow further customization of the characters’ gear. This customization will only affect the gear’s statistics and not the looks. Appearance customization might be something saved for the future.

Reforging skill will be available to those having Blacksmithing, Engineering, Jewelcrafting, Leatherworking and Tailoring. Wearers of these professions will have an option to take the piece of the gear originating from their native professions and to change one of the stats. For example, a tailor will be able to take out some statistic from the piece of cloth armor. He will then be able to change it and then return it back to the piece as a completely different statistic.

Why is this so special?

Firstly, the stats that you will be able to change are not the ones that some item already has. For instance, assuming that you have a pair of leggings with Intellect, Stamina and Spirit, you will be able to exchange stamina for a crit rating.

This adjustment of statistics will not only be possible for the items that you can craft, but for all of them. This is especially handy for the players who do not have the required crafting professions. They will have an option to demand service from the players who do have Reforging added to their main profession.

Cataclysm expansion will certainly bring a brand new dimension in the World of Warcraft. Confidently remaining on the top position among the all MMORPGs of all time, Wow is a safey bet. New MMORPGs are emerging on a daily basis, but the population of WOW players grows with each passing day. Undeniable quality of this game and brand new exciting releases are the main reason for this.
